Spend four nights experiencing the jungle in the Pook’s Hill Forest Reserve and do the most exciting adventure tours in Western Belize: ATM Cave, the Black Hole Drop, Cave tubing, and the canopy zip line tour. The ATM Cave tour combines nature hiking, caving adventure, and a magical trip into the Maya underworld, making it one of the most popular adventure tours in western Belize. A forty-five minute hike up the Roaring River Valley and through the rainforest of the Tapir Mountain Preserve leads you to the entrance of the cave where an experienced guide will take you on a journey into ‘Xibalba,’ the Maya underworld. Exploring this geologically fascinating cave is a treat all of its own but the main attraction is the ‘Cathedral’ chamber, which was a Maya ceremonial and burial ground. Pook’s Hill is the nearest lodge to the ATM Cave and offers early morning private tours that provide our guests with the opportunity to get into the cave first. (Please note that this is “wet” tour with lots of time spent in rivers. You will need closed toes shoes that can get wet and socks. It is a full day of physical activity and may not be appropriate for all people. The official age limit is 12 years.) The Black Hole Drop is highly adventurous tour begins with a rigorous hike over jungle clad limestone hills that lead up, up and up to the edge of a collapsed cave system with high forest growing out of the center and massive caverns on either end. Here your skilled team of guides will prepare you to rappel over the lip of cave and abseil the 300 feet down into the collapsed cavern’s floor. Enjoy lunch in the shade of the forest growing out of the cave before beginning the exciting ascent back up and out into the light. Ladders and ropes will help as you make your way over boulders and up the cave wall. (Please note that this exciting tour involves a rigorous hike.) The cave tubing and the zip line tours are done on the same day. Start with a short hike up into to rainforest to a raised platform where you begin your exciting trip of soaring through the jungle treetops high above the forest floor. After lunch, embark on a leisurely float in the turquoise waters of the Cave’s Branch River through a series of caves with glimpses of the towering rainforest in between. (The official height limit for the zip line and cave tubing tour is 40 inches.)
